“Shrek the Musical” will be featured as the 2024 Schmeckfest production on March 15 and 16. In preparation for this highly anticipated event, auditions are scheduled to take place in the Music Hall on the campus of Freeman Academy on December 14, 15 and 16.
“Shrek” will be under the direction of Iwona Lewter, and all interested persons aged 10 and older are invited to sign up for an audition time. Additional details are linked here, with a sign-up form accessed via the accompanying QR code.
Freeman’s long-standing Schmeckfest tradition began in 1959 as a one-time celebration that continued to grow and evolve over the years. A musical production was added in 1967 and staged for multiple performances annually until disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Modified versions of Schmeckfest were held in subsequent years, with the 2023 production of “State Fair” marking the return of a musical production – complete with orchestra – in conjunction with the traditional Germans-from-Russia meal and other activities.
While Schmeckfest is a fundraiser for Freeman Academy, a private K-12 school, the event has come to involve the entire community and is considered a homecoming celebration for many. For additional details, visit Schmeckfest.com.
