Business District Sidewalks & Pavement Lines Now In Place
Pavement markings added to Freeman’s newly reconstructed Main Street provide the most recent finishing touches to the business district. Paired with new sidewalks, the street was designed to enhance safety and be aesthetically pleasing. Zero-grade curb extensions at the Third and Fourth Street intersection and a ribbon of exposed aggregate are among the elements incorporated for that purpose.
Freeman’s Main Street reconstruction work began in late April. While work continues at the north end of Main Street and along several adjacent blocks, the Main Street business district reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic on September 3. Permanent lighting is on backorder and is expected to become available in June; fewer temporary light poles will be in use until that time.
Sayre Associates of Sioux Falls serves as the project engineer and Reede Construction of Aberdeen was awarded the main contractor bid for this multi-million dollar project. Completion of the overall project is scheduled for November 5.
