Midwestern hospitality, varied farming practices and a growing interest in unique experiences are just some of the reasons that agri-tourism is becoming increasingly popular in South Dakota. In celebration of agriculture, a free agri-tourism experience will be taking place in the Freeman community on Wednesday, August 9. That’s when the Freeman Community Development Corporation and Freeman’s Rural Revival organization will be facilitating free tours that will provide participants with behind-the-scenes tours of four agriculture-based businesses located within several miles of Freeman: Schultz Bros. Dairy, Graber Vineyards, Scenic View Farm and Berrybrook Organics.
Tours will start at noon and span until 5 PM. Originating from the ballpark, participation is capped at 45 and advance registration is required. The QR code is posted in the calendar section of this website; those who prefer to register by phone may contact Jake Tietje at 605.572.8117.
An assortment of “Market in the Park & More” activities will be taking place at Freeman’s Swimming Pool Park and ballpark following the tour. A soil health presentation will start at 5 PM and Freeman Farmers Market vendors will serve customers from 5-7 PM. Sylver Linings Ranch will provide horseback rides from 5-8 PM, while other ag-themed activities will be available.
A free meal of hot dogs, chips and bottled water. courtesy of FCDC, will be served by Rural Revival members at the park at 6:30 PM. Rural revival will be accepting tips toward the agriculture advocacy work they do in the local community.
