Freeman Flyers Qualify for State B Tournament

Freeman Flyers to Play in State Volleyball Tournament

With an upset win over undefeated Jones County on November 8, the Freeman Flyers punched their ticket to the 2022 State B Volleyball Tournament.

The Flyers enter the tournament as the number 9 seed with a season record of 21-9. Holding off top-seeded Warner - a team with just two losses all season - is the first challenge Freeman's hard-working hometown team will face.

Other teams rounding out the bracket are seeded as follows: Burke-2; Chester Area-3; Northwestern-4; Wolsey-Wessington-5; Colman-Egan-6; and Castlewood-7.

Freeman's 12-player roster includes seniors Kate Miller and Erin Ueckers; juniors Ava Andersen, Zenovia Butler, Cami Fransen and Ashlin Jacobsen; sophomores Emily Mendel, Korie Ortman, Erica Swenson, Savanna Timmerman and Ella Waltner; Vaida Ammann is the lone freshman on the team.

The last time the Flyers qualified for State volleyball was in 1998, before any of the current team members were born.

The Flyers are coached by Kendra Peterson, assisted by Jesse Ahlers.

Tournament action gets underway at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls on Thursday, November 17, with the Flyers playing in the tournament's first match at 11:30 AM Central Time.
