Schmeckfest Organizers Name 2023 Musical

Schmeckfest organizers have announced "State Fair" as the 2023 Schmeckfest musical. With music and lyrics by Rogers & Hammerstein, "State Fair" will take the stage on March 23, 24, and 25 under the direction of Kris Carlson and serve as the launching point for the weekend festival. Performance time is 8 PM and advance tickets are recommended.

In addition to the musical, a buffet-style German meal and a variety of exhibits and other presentations will take place as part of the celebration on Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25.

Freeman's long-standing Schmeckfest tradition got its start as a German tasting festival in 1959. A musical performance featuring members of the community was added in 1967, with the combination of a meal and musical taking place annually through 2019. COVID precautions led to modifications for carryout meal orders and the cancelation of the musical in both 2020 and 2021.

Tickets for both the meal & the musical go on sale January 1, with pre-sales available online beginning December 15.
