Heritage Hall Museum & Archives begins fall/winter hours

The arrival of October signals a shift in hours at Heritage Hall Museum & Archives (HHM&A) in Freeman. The museum will be open weekdays from noon to 4 p.m. and other times by appointment through April.
HHM&A is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that preserves and celebrates the history and traditions of the immigrants, primarily Germans from Russia, who brought their rich traditions of faith, culture and entrepreneurship to this area starting 150 years ago.
The museum includes two large exhibit halls that tell the immigration story and the community the settlers helped create, which we know today as Freeman. Galleries include agriculture, business, faith, home, indigenous peoples, natural world and transportation. In addition, four historical buildings have been moved to the museum complex: the Bethel Mennonite Church, the Diamond Valley School, the Ludwig and Susanna Deckert Pioneer House and the Johannesthal Reformed Church.
The museum also has an extensive archive/library available for research, and a mercantile that features items created by local artisans and authors. Both the archives and mercantile are free and open to the public.
