Heritage Hall Museum & Archives is continuing to explore the history of one-room country schools in this community with two programs scheduled.
On Sunday, Sept. 28, “Rural School Reminiscences” will be shared at the historical Bethel Church that is part of the museum’s complex. The 2 p.m. program will feature a presentation by several local people who attended and taught one-room country schools. It will also include opportunity for audience members to share their memories. This program is free; donations are appreciated.
Another program is planned for Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Freeman Community Center. “Are You Smarter Than an 8th Grader?” will start at 2 p.m. Modeled after the TV game show, “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”, this interactive exercise is based on curriculum from one-room country schools, including the eighth-grade exam. It will feature teams of staff and students from both Freeman Academy and Freeman Public Schools as well as members of the Freeman business community. This program is also free; donations are appreciated.
Watch for more details about both programs in the upcoming weeks.
